Sony Xperia Z Owners Reporting Random Shutdowns, Sony Claims Fix Will Be In Next Update

If you were planning on getting the Sony Xperia Z, you might want to hold off on your purchase just yet. According to several reports (1,2), there are Xperia Z owners who are complaining that their phones are randomly shutting down. This wouldn’t be such a big deal if the phones could be turned on again. Yikes! So far no one has been able to find a workaround or figure out what the problem is. Some have reported success in rebooting their phones by doing a hard reset (hold power + vol up), but it seems that it does not necessarily work for everyone. We did not encounter such problems during our review of the Sony Xperia Z, so it could be an isolated incident or completely random. In the meantime Sony has responded to the complaints and claimed to have come up with a fix for these random shutdowns. The fix is expected to make its way into the phone’s next update, so keep an eye out for that.
