Hisense Sero 7 Pro And Sero LT Tablets Aggressively Priced

hisense-sero-7-proToday, Hisense held a press event in New York in which they introduced a couple of tablets. The more powerful one (in a relative way) is the Sero 7 Pro, which is a 7-inch tablet that uses a 720p (1280×720) IPS display and a Tegra 3 processor (1.3GHz, T30 model with 1GB of RAM). Hisense has announced that the Sero 7 Pro will ship with Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), 8GB of internal storage and a 4000mAh battery capacity. The rest of the specs are fairly standard.

From a design perspective, the Sero 7 looks a lot like the Google Nexus 7, which is also powered by a similar hardware platform but with slightly better battery life, storage capacity and OS updates. So, everything pretty much comes down to pricing for HiSense in terms of competitiveness. At $149, the Hisense Sero 7 Pro is 25% cheaper than the Nexus 7, but the most important thing is that it features a MicroSD slot which can take an extra 32GB. That’s about $21 on Amazon today. If you’ve wanted a Nexus 7 like tablet with 40GB of storage for $170, this is pretty impressive.

The Sero LT aims an even lower price point: $99. Obviously to reach this, the hardware has to be different, so we’re talking about a 7″ LCD with a 1024×600 resolution display which is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core processor (which?) and Android 4.1. There is only 4GB of storage and the battery features a somewhat reasonable 3400mAh capacity.  It’s too bad that it doesn’t have an infrared (IR) blaster because $99 is cheaper than many universal remotes… This could eventually be a great tablet for Kids to play with.
