Nintendo Not Jumping Onto The Smartphone Game Bandwagon

nintendo-mobileNintendo’s financial forecast might not be too cheery recently, having admitted that they had ‘misread the market’, but does this mean they are on a sharp decline? We do not think so, and despite earlier rumors from Nikkei concerning Nintendo mulling over the possibility of using mobile devices like smartphones to air trailers and offer free mini games, it seems that Nintendo has refuted such rumors. In fact, Engadget was informed by Nintendo that they have no plans whatsoever to offer “mini-games” on various smartphone platforms,

It their statement, Nintendo mentioned, “Nikkei’s article contains information previously stated by Mr Iwata during past press conferences, including statements which relate to Nintendo’s willingness to make use of smart devices to promote our products. However during such past announcements Mr Iwata has also stated that Nintendo’s intention is not to make Nintendo software available on smart devices and as such, we can confirm that there are no plans to offer minigames on smartphone devices. ”

Nintendo also did mention that they are not done with consoles just yet, which is a good thing for us to hear. After all, it would be an extremely sad day if Nintendo were to end up like Sega and ditched their consoles just to concentrate on the software market.
