Slowly but surely Samsung is rolling out the much awaited Android 4.4.2 update for its existing devices, making sure that KitKat hungry users get their chocolate fix as soon as possible. After a pre-release build made its way online, Samsung has now started to roll out the Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 Android 4.4.2 update. This happens to be the first time that an Exynos powered variant of Samsung’s flagship smartphone has received the update prior to the Snapdragon variant, which is almost always the first to receive new updates.

Users with carrier branded devices may have to wait for a little longer to receive this update on their devices, as carriers tend to hold up the roll out because they first want to conduct their own tests on the update. Even if you’re not using a carrier branded device, it may take some time for the update to become available across all regions as Samsung is releasing it in stages. Nevertheless, it shouldn’t take more than a couple of days for this update to go live across all regions. Not only does it bring Android 4.4.2 improvements such as ability to change default launchers, choose between Hangouts and stock messaging app, it also brings a new and improved lock screen that has a camera shortcut. To download the update, if it hasn’t already popped up on your device, head to the settings app and proceed to the update menu.
