Asphalt 8 For iOS Kicks Off Twitch Mobile Streaming

Gameplay broadcasting service Twitch has been in the news quite a lot recently. One of the main reasons behind it is obviously its much awaited launch on Xbox One. The Xbox One Twitch app was finally updated last week with support for gameplay streaming being added. The Twitch mobile SDK was also announced recently, which brings the ability to stream mobile gameplay. Asphalt 8 for iOS is the first title to kick off Twitch streaming on mobile.

Gameloft’s popular title is the first game to take advantage of Twitch’s mobile SDK. Not only will they be able to share archives sessions and watch live chats, players will also be able to stream mobile gameplay live while recording themselves through the front camera on a smartphone or tablet. This goes in line with Twitch’s efforts to expand beyond being a viewing-only service.

Things are a bit different on mobile, there are no standalone Twitch apps. Instead the functionality must be baked into individual games. So its really up to developers if and when they want to include Twitch streaming in their titles. For now Gameloft only support this on Asphalt 8 for iOS, it hasn’t said when support for Android or Windows Phone is going to be added. Twitch streaming goes live on Asphalt 8 later this week when a major update is due to drop.
