LeapFrog Announced the LeapBand Wearable Activity Tracker for Kids

LeapFrog, the company that designs electronic gadgets for kids is jumping in the wearable bandwagon. Leapband is a smart watch for kids that helps them stay active and learn healthy habits by taking care of their own virtual pet.

During my briefing, I was told that kids love to wear a band or a watch, which makes the task to engage them with such a gadget easier. The activity tracker comes with eight different customizable pets :a cat, dog, dragon, monkey, panda, penguin, robot and unicorn The kids can play 10 different games and challenges which  gives access to 40 additional challenges. Just like in any regular digital games, kids will unlock new pets when they accomplish challenges.

Each game either requires the user to execute a number of movements, dance or learn about healthy food. Once the tasks are completed the kid earn various rewards including points.

A free downloadable companion application is available for the LeapFrog tablet LeapPad Ultra, or an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet. Six additional mini-games are accessible from this application sucha as archery, surfing and bobsledding.

Parents always  remain in control, they can lock the LeapBand for a pre-selected period of time, to avoid distraction during school for example.

The LeapBand is for kids 4 to 7 years old and will cost the lucky parents $39.99. It will be available in green, pink and blue in the U.S. online and at major retail locations beginning August 2014.
