HP TouchPad Android 4.4.2 Unofficial ROM Available

After acquiring webOS HP released a trio of new products that were based on the platform. Unfortunately none of those products took off. The TouchPad tablet was one of those products and upon seeing that it simply wasn’t going anywhere, HP discontinued it only months after it was launched. To get rid of the stock it initiated a fire sale and unloaded all units for a fraction of the price. Since then the tablet has been supported by unofficial updates from a community of developers which has now come up with an unofficial HP TouchPad Android 4.4.2 KitKat ROM.

Android 4.4.2 happens to be the latest version of Android 4.4, a platform update that Google released late last year. Despite the fact that it was originally based on webOS, the TouchPad is more than capable of running Android. In fact that is what most people who picked one up at the fire sale have done, turned it into an Android tablet.

Developer Jcsullins has released the latest unofficial build of CyanogenMod 11 based on Android 4.4.2 for the HP TouchPad. Many of the features like Bluetooth, front camera and HD video playback that didn’t work in older Android versions are all supported in this ROM.

If anyone still has a TouchPad lying around it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bump it up to an unofficial KitKat ROM. The download files and install instructions are available here.
