Iran Judge Summons Mark Zuckerberg For Court Appearance

iran-summons-zuckNow this is definitely one of the stranger pieces of news that we are all going to hear for this particular day, where a judge in Iran has actually summoned Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to appear in court in order to respond to allegations that touch on privacy violations. This comes across after the Iranian authorities laid the banhammer on WhatsApp earlier this month as well as doing the same to Instagram not too long after that.

This particular move is a follow up to a couple of complaints by individuals who cited that there were unspecified privacy concerns which were related to Instagram and WhatsApp. Iranian official Ruholla Momen-Nasab mentioned to state news agency INSA, “According to the court’s ruling, the Zionist director of the company of Facebook, or his official attorney, must appear in court to defend himself and pay for possible losses.”

It is not the first time, and neither does it seem as though it will be the last time that Iranian authorities will describe Zuckerberg as a ‘Zionist’, clearly pointing a finger to his Jewish background. It is highly unlikely that Zuckerberg will be bothered to accept the court’s invitation, so that’s that at the moment. After all, there is also not extradition agreement between Iran and the United States at this point of time, so why risk oneself by going there? Looks like Twitter, WhatsApp, YouTube and Instagram can hold a pity party in Iran.
