Samsung Galaxy W Might Be The 7-Inch Galaxy Mega 2

Last month a Samsung device carrying model number SM-T2558 popped up online. The form factor caused some confusion as it appeared to be a 7-inch tablet that actually looked like a phone. The company has launched phablets with 6-inch plus displays in the past, look no further than the Galaxy Mega, but this seems to be a whole new territory. It is possible that this might be the rumored Galaxy Mega 2 that’s probably a SK-Telecom exclusive in South Korea called the Galaxy W.

A leaked brochure reveals that the Galaxy W is coming soon to SK Telecom. Not only does it have a gigantic 7-inch 720p display, but also a 1.2Ghz quadcore processor, 1.5GB RAM, 2 megapixel front and 8 megapixel rear camera as well as 8GB of onboard storage with microSD card support. The specifications aren’t that different from the original Galaxy Mega series, but there is something that makes us doubt the Galaxy W.

Samsung’s recent devices have an apps button that replaces the menu button found on previous devices. Galaxy W’s image on the brochure suggests that it may have a menu button. Plus the SM-T2558 was certified with Android 4.3 whereas future devices will most likely be certified with Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Galaxy W is said to have a “Phoneblet UX” which includes a split-screen feature and landscape mode. It may also have a faux leather back like the Galaxy Note 3, a design element that Samsung has taken a strong liking to recently. There’s certainly no guarantee that the Galaxy W will be branded as Mega 2 outside South Korea, but so far that’s the best possible explanation.
