Samsung’s Tablet Market Share In Russia Is Shrinking

Galaxy-Note-Pro-UI-01Samsung has been stepping up its tablet game and we’ve seen the South Korean tech giant start to focus more on high-end devices as well as their low-mid ranged tablets. For example earlier this year we saw Samsung launch their high-end Galaxy NotePro and Galaxy TabPro series of Android tablets, suggesting that Samsung is serious about the tablet market.

Unfortunately while Samsung might be doing well for themselves with their smartphones, it looks like on the tablet front they might not be faring as well, at least not as far as the Russian market is concerned. According to recent data from research firm MTS, Samsung’s tablet market share in Russia has fallen by 9.5% in the first quarter of 2014.

The tech company only managed to sell 282,000 tablets in the first quarter which is reportedly a drop of 9.5%  from before. Apparently the reason is due to local and white-box manufacturers who are able to create even more affordable tablets, thus edging out companies like Samsung and Apple. According to MTS, Samsung’s market share in Russia for tablets is sitting at 14.7% which is marginally higher than Apple who is sitting at 14.1%.

MTS also mentions ASUS who has a market share of 7.3% in the country. Samsung’s low-end Galaxy Tab series of tablets are usually pretty affordable, so we can only imagine how much cheaper these locally made tablets are if they’re worth considering over Apple, Samsung, and ASUS’ offerings.
