Hilton Initiative Opens Hotel Rooms With Smartphone

MaleRequestUponArrival_HRThey say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and when it comes to hotels, having a normal check in desk is no longer good enough. Certain hotel chains have executive floors for a more personal and less crowded check in, and with the advent of technology, perhaps you can even use your smartphone to unlock your room door – as with the Starwood hotel chain. Hilton does not want to lose out on this though, having introduced a new Hilton app that will let you select your preferred room, send special requests, check in and check out, while unlocking your room in 2015, too.

This means there is no longer a need to speak to any of the staff unless you would like to pick up or return your keys when you leave. This does not mean you ought to avoid speaking with humans altogether, since I firmly believe that the differentiating factor between one five star hotel and another would be the human touch and level of service offered.

It will take some time before this initiative by Hilton takes off, where before the year is over, one ought to be able to enjoy room selection in more than 4,000 Hilton-affiliated hotels, and that would include both DoubleTree and Embassy Suites. [Press Release]
