Seagate Unveils New 3.5-inch 8TB Hard Drive

seagate-video-35-hddWhile 1TB of storage might have seem like a lot back in the day, these days burning through 1TB of storage can be done fairly quickly, thanks to music and videos being of higher quality (and thus larger in file size), as well as games these days taking up a lot more storage than they used to back in the day.

So if you are in the market for a new hard drive with a lot of storage, perhaps you might be interested in Seagate’s latest offering. The company has recently announced an 8TB hard drive which they are calling the “world’s first” as far as 3.5-inch hard drives are concerned. The company claims that they have managed to go past the storage capacity that are usually limited in a single 3.5-inch hard drive.

The previous largest amount in a single 3.5-inch hard drive was at 6TB, so for those who require a lot of storage in a single drive, perhaps Seagate’s latest offering could be for you. However it does seem like this drive is targeted at data centers rather than regular users, but we guess if you have a need for it, why not?

According to Scott Horn, Seagate’s VP of marketing, “Seagate’s new 8TB HDD provides IT managers with a new option for improving storage density in the data center, thus helping them to tackle one of the largest and fastest growing data categories within enterprise storage economically.”
