32-Bit Chrome For Mac Bites The Dust This November

Google has formally confirmed that the 32-bit Chrome for Mac is going to meet its end this November. It will no longer release future updates for the 32-bit version of its popular Chrome web browser for Mac. On the other hand the company will continue to support both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Chrome on Windows.

Late last month Google released the Chrome 64-bit for Windows. This new version brought various improvements for speed, stability and security. It has now decided to bring over all of these improvements with Chrome 64-bit for Mac, version 38, which will be released in November 24th.

Once the 64-bit version is launched for Apple’s desktop operating system the 32-bit version will bite the dust. As previously mentioned, unlike Windows, Google has decided to push for single architecture on Mac. A big reason for this could be the fact that most Mac OS X users are already running 64-bit versions of the operating system anyway.

As a result of this decision any and all 32-bit NPAPI plugins will cease to work on Chrome for Mac version 39 and onwards. Plugins would have to be updated first before they become compatible with the 64-bit Chrome for Mac. Google says that the stable version 39 of its web browser is going to be released for all customers in November 2014 through a Chrome update.
