Android 4.4 KitKat Not Coming For Huawei’s Ascend Mate 2

Earlier this year, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 was launched, which means at this time of writing, the phone is still less than a year old, meaning that it isn’t particularly old. The phone was also shipped with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board, but unfortunately for owners of the device, if you were hoping that it will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, that’s out of the question.

This is because Huawei has recently announced that the handset will not even be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update, which we have to admit is mighty unfortunate for owners of the device.

According to a statement released by Huawei, “We’ve received word that unfortunately we will not be updating the Mate2 to Android KitKat. Our Mate2 is the first of many products we’ll continue to offer in the coming months, and you can expect superior hardware with the latest software going forward.”

The Ascend Mate 2 was released in the US a few months ago where it has been sold at an affordable price of $300. The device featured a 6.1-inch Full HD display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage, a 4,050mAh battery, and a 13MP camera.

It is unclear why Huawei chose not to update to Android 4.4 KitKat, especially considering that companies such as Motorola and Sony have announced that they will be bringing Android 5.0 Lollipop to some of their older and less powerful devices.
