Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Confirmed For Sony’s Entire Xperia Z Lineup

Sony-Xperia-Z2-06

Yesterday Google officially announced the launch of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the latest iteration of its mobile platform which was first shown to us back at the I/O 2014 conference as Android L. The first devices to receive this update will obviously be Google’s own Nexus smartphones and tablets. However since yesterday OEMs have started confirming their plans as well. Sony confirmed today that its entire Xperia Z lineup is going to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Up till now Motorola has listed devices which will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop and NVIDIA has also confirmed the release for its SHIELD tablet.

Be warned though there is a fair bit of waiting involved if you happen to be touting any of Sony’s Xperia Z devices. The core Xperia Z3 and Z2 series will be the first to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop “at the beginning of 2015,” that’s just about as specific as Sony is getting at this stage. Other devices will get the update thereafter.

In case you are wondering what these other devices are, these include the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet.

If you have a Google Play edition device from Sony then you’re in luck because after the Nexus devices get Android 5.0 Lollipop, the next in line will be GPE devices.
