Study Finds Women Game More On Mobile, Men Lead The Way In FPS

female-gamerBoth men and women play video games, but is there a particular genre or medium of video games that might appeal to one gender more than the other? Well according to a recent study conducted by SuperData Research, the answer is yes, there are some genres and mediums in which one gender might prefer compared to the other.

For example when looking at the MMO scene, it was found that men tend to prefer that particular genre. The study found that 66% of gamers who play MMOs are male, and 34% are female. However this is a different story when it came to mobile games. In mobile gaming, females took the lead at 57.8% versus men who came in at 42.2%.

The numbers are slightly more even when it came to PC-based based which included social ones like the games offered on Facebook, with women slightly in the lead at 50.2% versus men at 49.9%. However when it came to games such as FPS or digital console games, men took the lead at over 60% in both genres/mediums, with women coming in a little over 30%.

According to SuperData Research, “Women are closing the gamer gender gap as they represent two out of five MMO gamers. Women account for almost half of MMO players, contrary to the stereotyped gamer landscape.” So, what do you guys make of these numbers? Are you in agreement that this is what you’ve noticed around you?
