However what makes it more interesting is the fact that China accounts for more iPhone shipments than the US, which is a first. Based on UBS’ estimates, China accounted for about 35% of iPhone shipments. This is a huge leap from last year in the same quarter in which China only accounted for 22% of iPhone sales.
As for the US, their sales have increased from 24% to 29% year on year. However we should note that shipments does not necessarily indicate sales, but it is a sign that there is a huge demand for the product, otherwise why would Apple bother sending in that much shipment to a market with no demand, right?
What makes China’s figures even more impressive is the fact that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus was released later than the US, so for China to overtake the US in iPhone shipments in such a short period of time says a lot about the Chinese market, and it is also understandable as to why Apple would want to focus on developing their brand further in the country.
