Of course, it does not really make sense as to why this panic button alongside a “Safety Net” will only see action in India first. Why not have it as a standard and uniform release all over the world where Uber operates? Regardless, both panic button and the “Safety Net” feature will debut this coming February 11th, where the latter would allow passengers to share their routes and expected time of arrival in real-time with a maximum of five people, while saving them as emergency contacts on the app.
Uber mentioned, “In a situation of distress the ride would have to pick the correct operator’s panic button to be able to get help on time. [In a car that works with India’s four top taxi app services] that’s 25 percent chance of success; and a decision that has to be made and executed in a split-second, if at all.”
