HTC Might Reconsider Android 5.1 For The HTC One M7

HTC-One-32The HTC One M7 was released two years ago which by today’s standards makes it kind of outdated in terms of hardware. However in terms of software, it did receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update but as some of you might have heard, that’s pretty much the end of it as the company announced then that they had no plans to bring Android 5.1 onto the device.

They did state that they would bring it to the HTC One M7 Google Play Edition which probably did not sit well with many users. However the good news is that due to the outcry, it seems that HTC could be reconsidering their stance. According to a recent tweet by HTC’s Mo Versi, “I heard you all on M7 5.1 for Carrier versions. Many of the fixes are already in our current SW, but understand your concerns. Stay tuned.”

We should note that this is by no means an official confirmation that the non-GPE version of the HTC One M7 will get Android 5.1, but at the very least it sounds like HTC is open to the idea of exploring that possibility. After all the hardware on the GPE and non-GPE version is the same, save for the interface so with some work, we reckon it shouldn’t be too hard for HTC to bring the Android 5.1 onto the non-GPE One M7 device.

No word on when we will hear confirmation that HTC will/will not bring Android 5.1 onto the HTC One M7, but do check back with us in the near future for more details.
