Valve Experimented With Half-Life In Virtual Reality

htc viveThere are plenty of games that would be interesting to play in virtual reality, but we suppose what makes more sense would be first-person type of games. Now Valve and HTC have recently announced the HTC Vive virtual reality headset and revealing in a recent interview with Kotaku, it seems that Valve has experimented with Half-Life in virtual reality.

According to Valve programmer Jeep Barnett, “We’ve said, ‘Let’s take some existing art and see how it fits’. So yeah, we’ll grab some headcrabs, we’ll grab the machine guns from Half-Life, the rocket launcher—all those different fun things—and see how they play in VR. But right now, it’s a tool for exploring the different kind of game designs we want to do.”

Now before you get too excited at the idea of being able to play Half-Life in first-person and see what it feels like to be Gordon Freeman, there is a chance that the game might not even be released for the HTC Vive. Barnett revealed that while it’s something Valve would love to see happen, resources are limited which means they’d have to pick and choose their projects carefully.

Barnett was quoted as saying, “Would we like to make all of our franchises in VR? Absolutely. But we don’t have enough time or people. So we have to figure out what’s the best fit, what plays to the strengths of VR.” In the meantime at least one of Valve’s games has been brought over to virtual reality – Team Fortress 2 which was played on the Oculus Rift.
