UFC Fighter Claims Mortal Kombat X Used Her Likeness

mma mkxMore often than not, the inspiration for characters in stories, movies, TV shows, and video games come from people based in real-life. In some cases the people they’re basing it on are flattered, but sometimes when used out of context or without their permission, this is when things get a bit messy.

In the latest case, UFC fighter Felice Herrig claims that NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat X used her likeness without her permission. The character we’re talking about in none other than Cassie Cage. Now Herrig had her suspicions a few months ago when she was told she looked like Cassie Cage from the game, but apart from that she did not have much to go on.

However as time passed and with more footage and images released, Herrig had the feeling that this was more than a coincidence. In one of her posts on Instagram she wrote, “Hmm ok. I thought it was similar before with the bubble gum but this CAN NOT be a coincidence ?!?!! Aside from the resemblance , watch #cassiecage finishing move.”

For those unfamiliar, Cassie Cage’s finishing move is taking a selfie after brutalizing her opponent, and Herrig has been known to take many selfies as evidenced on her Instagram page. She later uploaded the image above which showed that the poses of Cassie Cage were similar to ones she had done in the past. We’re not sure if Herrig plans on pursuing legal action, but this is definitely not the first time we’ve seen developers use the likeness of people in real life without their permission, but what do you guys think? Is Herrig onto something here?
