Latest Game Of Thrones Episode Sets New Piracy Record

HBO’s Game of Thrones is easily one of the most pirated shows in the world, if not the most pirated. However it seems that the show’s popularity has increased so much that even its piracy has seen a huge increase as well, so much so that it even broke previous records with the latest episode “Kill the Boy”.

According to a report from Variety, it seems that the latest episode of Game of Thrones has nabbed 2.2 million downloads around the world in less than 12 hours since it was aired on TV. The number was recorded by piracy-tracking firm Excipio who claims to have tracked 2.2 million individual internet addresses.

No doubt HBO would have loved to see those numbers as being HBO Now subscribers, but unfortunately we doubt that. It is no wonder that the company isn’t too thrilled with the piracy and has gone to various lengths to try and curtail it, such as sending warnings to individual users as well as preventing public venues from hosting Game of Thrones viewing parties.

Prior to the official airing of the first episode, the first four episodes were leaked online which we can imagine was much to the delight of fans and pirates everywhere, however if these numbers are to be believed, it seems that it has not slowed down the pirates one bit.
