There were whispers recently that a new Mafia title could be in the pipeline and today 2K Games has officially confirmed that Mafia 3 is indeed being developed, it has promised fans to provide more information about the new title in the coming month. It will reveal more about Mafia 3 at Gamescom which kicks off August 5th in Cologne, Germany.

Fans of this franchise have had to wait for a very long time for a new title, Mafia 2 was the last one and it was released back in August 2010. The sequel to the original Mafia itself came eight years after the first game came out.

Anticipation for a new title grew this year particularly back in January when Rick Pasqualone, a voice actor, revealed through Twitter that “exciting news” would be coming soon, this led many to believe that a new Mafia title is in the pipeline.

The last game was developed by 2K Czech studio which closed its office in Prague early last year as part of a major restructuring effort, development duties for Mafia 3 have been entrusted to 2K Studio Hangar 13.

Gamers who adore the Mafia franchise will obviously mark August 5th in their calendars as that’s when they’ll find out what Mafia 3 has in store, August can’t come soon enough.
