However it looks like 500px has decided to give its app a massive overhaul, essentially turning it into a high-resolution Instagram. The app now displays photos based on people you follow and recommendations the same way Instagram does. Users can like and favorite photos the same way, leave comments, and check up on additional details about the photo and how it was taken.
Basically the same features 500px used to offer is still around, it’s just been served up on a different format that’s more akin to Instagram than anything. Photographers who are looking to use the app as a mobile portfolio will also be pleased to learn that the service will store the highest-possible resolution of your photo on its service.
It will then deliver an appropriately compressed image depending on how it is being viewed (such as on the desktop or on mobile). It will be interesting to see if 500px’s revamped app will fare and if it will attract more users, but for now if you’d like to check it out, hit up the iTunes App Store for the download. The Android revamp is scheduled for later this year.
