It has been a while since music mogul Dr. Dre came out with a new album and his fans can now start counting down the days because Dre has confirmed that there’s a new album just around the corner. Unsurprisingly his first new album in 16 years is going to be an Apple Music and iTunes exclusive, Dre joined Apple when his company Beats was acquired by Cupertino and has already provided his classic album The Chronic as an exclusive for Apple Music.

Dr. Dre made the announcement about his new album during his weekly show on Beats 1 called The Pharmacy, he said that he kept the album under wraps for a long time but now it’s finished. His new work is “inspired-by” the movie Straight Outta Compton that focuses on the rise of N.W.A and hits the big screen later this month.

His fans would be aware that Dre has had an album in the pipeline for a long time called Detox, this album was originally planned for release in 2011 but now we know that it’s not going to see the light of day.

Dre said on his radio show that he didn’t like the album, “I don’t think I did a good enough job,” he says, adding “I just wasn’t feeling it.”

Dr. Dre’s new album is called Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre and it will be available on iTunes and Apple Music starting Friday, August 7th.
