Major Update Reportedly Being Developed For Samsung’s High-End Handsets

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-5-19

The high-end handsets that Samsung released this year, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5, have all been updated to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop which is the latest version of Android that’s available to the public. With Google expected to confirm a release date for Marshmallow soon there’s a new report out today which claims that Samsung has started developing a major software update for the high-end handsets it released this year.a

Android 6.0 Marshmallow was first shown off earlier this year and since then only developer previews have been released, Google is yet to confirm when it’s going to release the software to the public, it has an event scheduled soon to unveil the new Nexus smartphones and it’s likely that it will talk about Marshmallow there.

Seeing as how there’s no major version of Android between 5.1.1 and 6.0 the major update that this report talks about is most likely Marshmallow, and it would make sense for Samsung to prioritize this update for high-end smartphones. That’s precisely what it did with Lollipop as well.

Still, this is mere speculation at this point, and Samsung hasn’t said anything about an impending major update for the aforementioned smartphones so we’ll just have to wait and see if the company makes an announcement after Google provides a confirmed release date for Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
