It turns out that it is possible, at least over in Switzerland. The country’s local news station Léman Bleu has recently decided to replace its more expensive camera equipment with iPhones. They gave these iPhones to their reports over the course of the summer to use for live recording on the streets.
According to the station’s news director Laurent Keller, cost effectiveness was one of the reasons why they have decided to do this, along with the ability for their equipment to be brought around easily, like how an iPhone can easily fit into a bag or a pocket. “It’s a search for lightness and responsiveness, but also a way to reduce costs of producing a newscast.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen companies make the move in using more mobile products. A couple of years ago, the Chicago Sun-Times reportedly laid off its entire photography in-house staff and opted to train its reporters in using the iPhone and how to take photos.
