Google Play Store Now Supports Fingerprint Authorization For Purchases

Controlling access to a mobile device is the basic job of a fingerprint scanner, they’ve been around on smartphones for a few years now but most haven’t gone beyond making sure that the right person is accessing the device. Now though fingerprint sensors are capable of doing so much more, with Google even providing them the ability to authorize purchases made in the Google Play Store on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Native support for fingerprint sensors is present in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, it makes a big push for the adoption of this technology, the addition of new features is going to go a long way in aiding adoption of the technology.

The Google Play Store application was recently updated and it now has an option to authorize purchases via fingerprint, the feature is available on all Android devices with fingerprint sensors running version 6.0 Marshmallow.

By default the fingerprint authentication option is turn off but it can easily be activated by heading to the Play Store settings, the option is listed under User Controls. Users will need to enter their Google account’s password to confirm activation of the feature.

Once the feature has been activated any and all app purchases in the Google Play Store can be authorized using the fingerprint, a button will always be displayed on the bottom of the prompt which will allow users to alternatively approve that purchase by entering their password.
