The men in blue managed to break up this crime syndicate ring after their sleuth work uncovered suspicious iPhone purchases that were made from Apple Stores in the Washington Square Mall as well as Bridgeport Village. What came across as their big break was when they managed to witness an individual pick up a large number of iPhones with a rather large number of gift cards. This huge transaction managed to raise the alarm flags of the police, where they tailed the suspect to his car.
After the suspect drove off, the police got into action by asking him to pull over, before discovering 470 iPhones in his ride that were valued at $290,000. Other items discovered include Apple Store gift cards to the tune of $585,000, and these were most likely purchased via counterfeit credit cards. No arrests were made then, although the suspects led law enforcement officials to a FedEx store, where there lay a respectable number of boxes that carried iPhones inside, ready to be smuggled into Hong Kong.
