PS2 Backwards Compatibility On The PS4 Might Not Involve Discs

ps2As you might have heard a couple of weeks ago, Sony confirmed that PS2 games would be backwards compatible with the PlayStation 4. This will be done through emulation technology, and now thanks to a video (which has since been removed), it seems that additional details of how it works has been revealed.

Now for those of you who were PS2 gamers and have a huge library of games that you can’t wait to play, we might have some disappointing news. According to part of the video’s description, it mentions that PS2-formatted discs will not be compatible with the PS4. It reads, “PS2 Classics and PS2-formatted discs are incompatible with the PS4 system.”

What this means is that if you were thinking that inserting PS2 games into the PS4 is easy enough to get started, you would be mistaken. However given that the video has since been taken down, perhaps there might be some changes that Sony will be making ahead of the official announcement even though we have a feeling this might be final.

So how will this work then? Unfortunately Sony has not bothered to detail the emulation technology just yet so we guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but in the meantime does the potential lack of disc-support bum you out?
