Android N Lets You Drag And Drop Text Between Apps

multi_window_drag_dropAs some of you guys might have already heard, the developer preview of Android N has been released. Now when it comes to copying and pasting on smartphones, it isn’t as easy compared to using a computer, but it seems that Android N is hoping to solve that by allowing users to drag and drop text from app to app.

According to a report from Android Police, one of the features of Android N is multi-window, which basically allows apps to run side by side. Similar feature have been offered on tablets as it makes sense due to its larger display, but it seems that Google has decided to make this a feature available on smartphones as well.

Thanks to the use of multi-window, it has also been discovered that this allows users to highlight a portion of text and drag it over to another app to paste. So for example if you’re writing an email and you want to copy and paste some text from your browser, you will be able to do so by dragging and dropping the text over.

This is versus the current system where you’d have to highlight the text, click copy, swap to the other app, and click paste. As pointed out by Android Police, this is a feature that Samsung has had on their phones for a while now, but since not all of us use Samsung phones, it’s nice to see that it will eventually be part of Android itself.
