In this latest discovery in the heart of Uzbekistan, it points to a quickening of the super-sizing process, where only after the appearance of several anatomical features could have assisted the tyrannosaurs to be fearsome and effective hunters.
The particular finding was reported by Hans-Dieter Sues of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, Stephen Brusatte of the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and others involved in the project. As for the earlier dinosaur, it was said to have lived approximately 90 million years ago, and measured anywhere from 10 to 12 feet long, tipping the scales at 600 pounds max. This is in stark contrast to the T. rex that came about 10 million years later, which was 4 times as long and could have very well be 20 times heavier. Now this is certainly a stark contrast in a relatively short time (where evolution is concerned), don’t you think so?
