Amazon Will Sell You Cheap Unlocked Phones If You Look At Ads

Amazon is often the best place to purchase unlocked smartphones and the company certainly knows that so it’s using that to its advantage. It has launched a new program through which it’s going to sell you subsidized unlocked smartphones as long as you agree to look at advertisements and bear bloatware on your handset. This exclusive pricing for unlocked smartphones will only be available for Amazon Prime members.

Amazon promises that under this program Prime members will be able to take advantage of exclusive pricing on unlocked handsets of up to 50 percent off. The discount is going to be supported by personalized offers and ads, including deals and product recommendations, which will be displayed on the phone’s lockscreen.

The way this will work is that users who buy these subsidized handsets will see ads for deals on their handset’s lockscreen. They can either unlock their phone to dismiss the ad or tap on it to learn more about the deal. Sounds like a small price to pay for a subsidized handset, doesn’t it?

It’s unclear though whether the third-party bloatware apps that will be installed on these handsets will be configures as system apps, meaning that it won’t be possible to uninstall them unless a different ROM is flashed, or if users won’t be allowed to uninstall them at all.

The Blu R1 HD and the new Moto G are the first two smartphones that are being offered with exclusive pricing. Blu R1 HD is available for $49.99 – $50 off its $99.99 retail price – while the Moto G can be had for $149.99 which is a $40 discount off of its $149.99 retail price.
