Google’s Pixel Phones Could Launch With Android 7.1

We suppose it is pretty obvious that Google’s upcoming handsets will launch with Android Nougat preinstalled. We had assumed that it would most likely come with Android 7.0 Nougat, but a recent tweet by @LlabTooFeR has revealed that it would be getting a more updated version of Nougat instead in the form of Android 7.1.

Given that Google did promise that they would be moving to a quarterly maintenance cycle for Android, the update to Android 7.1 does seem to be a bit earlier than expected, but then again we guess we can’t really complain if Google wants to give its users the latest Android update possible, right?

We’re not sure if there will be huge changes from Android 7.0 to Android 7.1, but chances are there will be the introduction of new features, bug fixes, security updates and whatnot, so like we said, the update is very much welcome. In fact the update to Android 7.1 was hinted in a recent Geekbench appearance where its platform was listed as Android NMR1.

In any case the rumored Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones from Google are expected to be officially announced on the 4th of October. Google has yet to confirm the event but we expect the official invites should be going out soon, so remember to check back with us then for the details.
