Apple didn’t provide the release date for macOS Sierra on stage at its event on September 7th, but the company did update the page on its website to confirm when the latest iteration of its operating system is going to be released. It promised that macOS Sierra will be released on September 20th and it has followed through on that promise. The macOS Sierra download is available now and you can get it on your compatible Mac right away.

One big change you will immediately notice if you’re a habitual Mac user is that the name of this update is different. Gone is the “OS X” branding, Apple has brought the branding in line with iOS and watchOS by renaming it to macOS Sierra.

Those who have a compatible computer can now head over to the Mac App Store to download macOS Sierra. It’s offered as a free update so anyone and everyone will be able to get their hands on the latest piece of software from Apple.

Just to be safe, don’t forget to backup your computer before you install the update. It’s not likely that anything will go wrong during the process but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

We’ve already reported on the whole host of new features that macOS Sierra brings to Macs, including but not limited to Siri, this is the first time that Apple’s personal digital assistant will be available on Mac. Also, here’s the list of Macs supported by macOS Sierra.
