Lyft Announces ‘Amp’, A New Way To Identify Your Ride

We’re sure it has happened to some of you guys, in which you get into the wrong Uber or Lyft vehicle. Granted both apps will clearly tell you which vehicle is yours, but in the moment we guess sometimes we automatically assume the car pulling up is ours. This can lead to some disagreements or arguments or embarrassment, but Lyft wants to put an end to that.

The company has recently announced a new initiative called Amp. This will ultimately do away with the glowing moustache which seemed to be the company’s trademark identifier. Instead it will be replaced with a Beats Pill-like looking device that will be Lyft’s new emblem. Basically Amp will glow a particular hue that will correspond to the hue displayed on your phone.

This means that if you see an Amp glowing of a different color, there’s a good chance that the car isn’t for you. There will be two Amps installed in ear Lyft car, with the one in the front displaying the hue, while the one in the back can display personalized messages. This new feature will be rolled out to Lyft cars in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City by New Year’s Eve, and the rest of the US should be seeing it by the middle of next year.
