Pixel Phones In Canada Updated With New Gestures

google-pixel-phone-launch_02It seems that over in Canada, Google’s Pixel phones are receiving an update that will bring about a couple of new and useful features to the handset. This is according to a thread on Reddit in which customers from Telus, Bell, and Public Mobile confirm that they are receiving an update to build NPF26J which weighs in around 261MB.

According to these users, this update has brought about some new gestures for the phone. One of those new gestures includes the ability to wake up the phone by raising it up in which you can then see notifications. This saves users from having to press a button to wake their phone up, which is more efficient and also saves on wear and tear.

The other feature allows the user to double-tap on the screen to see alerts, so if you’d rather not raise the screen or press a button, double-tapping on the screen could save you a few seconds. Note that neither of these features are “new” per se since we have seen similar features available on other phones in the past, but they are new as far as the Pixel phones are concerned.

We’re not sure when the update will make its way to the US, but for those who are too impatient to wait, there is an OTA image that Redditor someguy172 has uploaded that will bring it from build NDE63V to NPF26J.
