At the Consumer Electronics Show 2017, NVIDIA unveiled its new Shield TV set-top box which brings support for 4K HDR media streaming alongside a handful of other new features. The company did say at CES 2017 that the new set-top box was going to be released soon. It has confirmed now that the new NVIDIA Shield TV is available for purchase starting today.

The new NVIDIA Shield TV is the first Android TV-powered device to have support for Google Assistant. It’s an AI platform that was first launched with Google Home products and was later expanded to smartphones with the Pixel handsets.

It’s also the first Android TV streaming box to have the official Amazon Video app in 4K HDR, allowing owners to stream compatible content, but they must have a TV that supports 4K and HDR to properly take advantage of this feature.

Gaming performance has also been improved as GeForce Now has been upgraded with Pascal performance. Users can also stream games from PCs to the Shield set-top box if they want to play on the big screen.

NVIDIA has released a software update today for the original Shield TV set-top box which brings the new features it announced for the 2017 Shield TV to the original set-top box. That software update is now rolling out.

The new NVIDIA Shield TV costs $199.99 and is now available for purchase from the company’s website.
