Netflix Is Reportedly Experimenting With Price Hikes For The Weekends

If you’ve ever tried to book a hotel over a weekend, there is a chance that you might have noticed that the prices on the weekend tend to be higher than on weekdays. This is sometimes true of airline tickets as well. However could that also eventually be applied to streaming services such as Netflix?

In a report from News.com.au out of Australia, it seems that Netflix is reportedly testing out a price hike for subscribers on the weekends. The company has since confirmed that they are conducting analysis but stress that this is only a test at this point in time. No official announcements have been made and no customers in Australia are affected.

In a statement released by the company, “We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time. In this case, we are testing slightly different price points to better understand how consumers value Netflix. Not everyone will see this test and we may not ever offer it generally.”

The report of the secret pricing increase was initially reported by The Australian where it was noticed that on the weekends, users would see prices increased by $1-2, before dropping back down on weekdays. We’re not sure if this might be an Australia-only change since the government has levied a 10% tax on international suppliers of digital products and services, and that the price hike could be Netflix’s way of recouping those taxes, but either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
