iOS 11 Camera App Has Native Support For QR Codes

QR codes may have fallen off the radar in recent years but it’s not like you can’t already find them on billboards and business cards. It appears that Apple is giving QR codes a new lease on life in the United States. The company has added native support for QR codes in the iOS 11 camera app. This means that users will be able to scan QR codes using the native camera app, they won’t have to install any third-party apps for scanning QR codes.

There are already a plethora of third-party apps available on the App Store that enable users to scan QR codes on the go. Users can to find one, download it, and then launch it every single time they wanted to scan a QR code.

It has been discovered in the first beta of iOS 11 that has now been released to registered developers that the iOS 11 Camera app has native support for QR codes.

This means that when someone wants to scan a QR code, all they have to do is launch the camera app and point it at the code. It will automatically give them a prompt to follow the URL.

Users will be able to toggle the feature from the camera settings menu but reports suggest that it will be enabled by default. iOS 11 will be released for compatible devices this fall.
