Essential Phone To Receive Android 8.0 Oreo Update In Next Few Months

Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone was launched a few months ago and the phone came with Android 7.0 Nougat bundled with it. Given that this is a brand new phone from a brand new company, it does give Rubin and co. a chance to prove themselves to their customers, and one of those ways is through timely updates.

With Android 8.0 Oreo already making its way to Pixel handsets and with various OEMs already working on the update for their devices, the question is when will the Essential Phone receive its tasty treat? The good news is that owners of the phone won’t have to wait too long, according to a recent AMA held on Reddit in which the company confirmed that the phone will receive the Oreo update in the next couple of months.

In response to one of the questions asked by users, Rebecca Zavin, Essential’s VP of Software was quoted as saying, “We are excited about supporting 3rd party developers. We’ll be releasing our kernel and factory images in the next few days. Android O will be coming in the next month or two.”

Given that the company pretty much only has one phone to update at the moment, we guess it makes sense that they will be able to push out the update faster than other OEMs. Apart from the 1-2 month time frame, no specific dates have been mentioned, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information.
