Galaxy S9 Launch Rumored For January 2018

It goes without saying that Samsung is going to launch a successor to the Galaxy S8 next year. The new flagship will presumably be called the Galaxy S9 when it’s officially unveiled. It’s too soon for Samsung to confirm anything about this handset so far. If a new rumor is to be believed, the Galaxy S9 launch is going to take place earlier than expected in the first month of next year.

Over the past few years, Samsung has launched its new Galaxy S handsets a couple of months into the new year. It’s now being rumored that the Galaxy S9 launch might take place early into 2018.

It’s not like we’ve not heard similar rumors about previous Samsung Galaxy S series handsets. These rumors are actually quite common when a new handset is in the pipeline and since they’re all from unverified sources, they must always be taken with a grain of salt.

The rumor out of South Korea claims that Samsung Display will ship OLED panels for the Galaxy S9 by November this year. This timeline suggests that the handset would be out in January 2018 since the display panels are normally shipped two to three months before mass production begins.

If Samsung does launch the Galaxy S9 in January this year, it will be in a much better position to take on competitors that are launched after CES 2018 and MWC 2018. Whether or not an early launch will really happen is another matter altogether.
