Facebook Messenger Lite Expands To The U.S.

Facebook is now expanding Messenger Lite to more countries across the globe, including the United States. As the name suggests, Messenger Lite is a version of Facebook Messenger that requires less data than the full version. It was initially launched in countries where data networks are slow. Facebook is now rolling out Messenger Lite to developed markets like the United States.

Facebook Messenger Lite is now available for Android users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. It was previously available in more than 100 developing nations.

The app provides access to the core features of Messenger but doesn’t include features that demand a lot of data, such as selfie lenses and Messenger Day. Facebook is yet to confirm if it’s going to release the Lite version for iOS as well.

Users in developed markets who don’t want to burn too much of their mobile data running the full version of Messenger can now opt for the Lite version instead, the only caveat being that they must own an Android device. iOS users are out of luck.

Facebook Messenger Lite already has more than 200 million users across the globe. It shows that Facebook’s decision to launch a less data hungry version of its messaging application was a good one. Expanding it to developed markets like the United States will only enable the company to bring in more users.
