Apple Store Saw $300 Million In Purchases On New Year’s Day


A lot of people like to buy apps on New Year’s Day it seems. Apple has issued a press release which reveals that the App Store set a New Year’s Day sales record with more than $300 million in purchases. This goes to show that the App Store is kicking off the new year with a record-breaking holiday season.

During the week that started on Christmas Eve, the App Store saw a record number of customers making purchases or downloading apps from the App Store to the tune of $890 million over the seven day period.

“We are thrilled with the reaction to the new App Store and to see so many customers discovering and enjoying new apps and games,” said Phil Schiller, the senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple. He also revealed that iOS developers have earned $26.5 billion in 2017 alone. That’s a 30 percent increase over last year.

Pokemon Go climbed on top of the Apple Store charts in the final week of December after Niantic added new augmented reality features to the title that are built on Apple’s ARKit framework.

The App Store was launched by Apple back in July 2008. It has grown considerably over the past decade. The company has paid out more than $86 billion dollars to iOS developers since then.
