OnePlus Will Start Talking To U.S. Carriers About Selling Its Handsets

OnePlus has proven itself in the smartphone market over the past couple of years. It has stuck to its strategy of developing “flagship killers,” handsets with high-end specifications at an affordable price point. No major carrier in the country sells OnePlus smartphones and the company is ready to change that now.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has revealed that the company is going to start talking to U.S. carriers about selling its smartphones. “If the right opportunity and right timing come along, we’ll be very happy to experiment,” he said in an interview with CNET.

However, Lau didn’t say when these talks are going to take place and if there’s a time frame in mind for when a deal is going to be struck. He didn’t even mention if there are any preferred major carriers that OnePlus would like to work with first.

Lau confirmed during the interview that the next OnePlus smartphone is going to be launched in the second quarter of this year. This means that it will be launched around the same time as the OnePlus 5 last year.

Whether or not U.S. carriers are willing to play ball with a China-based OEM remains to be seen. They are reluctant to enter into an agreement with a behemoth like China due to political pressure, who knows how hard of a bargain they’ll drive if they really want to do business with OnePlus.
