Apple Might Launch A Cheaper HomePod This Year

HomePod, Apple’s first smart speaker powered by Siri, hasn’t really been flying off the shelves. One of the reasons might be that it’s a bit more expensive than other smart speakers even though Apple has been pushing the high-quality audio angle with this product. Even though the company hasn’t even hinted anything of the sort just yet, a new report claims that Apple might launch a cheaper HomePod later this year.

Taiwan-based Economic Daily News reports that Apple is going to launch a new HomePod later this year that’s going to be priced lower than its predecessor. It’s expected to cost $150-$200 and will be targeted to customers who want a smaller speaker and not a lot of features.

A new HomePod isn’t the only cheaper product that Apple is expected to announce in the coming months. Another report recently claimed that the company has a new cheaper MacBook Air in the pipeline that it’s going to release in the near future.

The report doesn’t really detail how Apple is going to make the new HomePod cheaper and what features might end up on the chopping block. It’s going to have to make some major changes to bring the price down from $349 to $200 or even lower.

It goes without saying that just because this has been rumored doesn’t mean this is actually going to happen so take this information with a grain of salt until there’s more to go on.
