Nintendo Would Love To See One Switch Per Person

While consoles are designed to support local multiplayer, more often than not it usually ends up being that one person will own one console. However with the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo tried pitching it differently where it seemed like Nintendo was encouraging that players share their consoles, largely thanks to the way the console is designed.

However fast forward a year later, Nintendo seems like they might want to change that and are now hoping to get a Switch into the hands of every gamer. This was revealed by Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo’s general manager of the entertainment and development division where he said that initially Nintendo intended for the Switch to be owned by families, but are now aiming for every single person.

Takahashi was quoted as saying in the video above, “[B]ut we’re starting to think that one Nintendo Switch per person might be possible. And since the population of the world is seven billion, I guess we’ve got our work cut out for us.” This mirrors comments made by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto who had previously stated, “Our ultimate ambition is for a Nintendo Switch to be owned not just by every family, but by every single person.”

Whether or not Nintendo will be able to achieve their goal remains to be seen, but so far the company has been enjoying massive success with the Switch in terms of sales as well as first-party titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.
