Bose Home Speaker 500 Launched With Alexa Onboard

Premium audio company Bose has announced the launch of a new product that will take on smart speakers from the likes of Sonos. The Bose Home Speaker 500 is a new premium audio product which comes with Alexa onboard so it will be able to do more than just play music. The company has said that this product will get support for other voice assistants in the future so you can probably expect Google Assistant to arrive in a few months.

Given that voice assistants will be present, there’s an eight-microphone array for far-field voice recognition. This is what will enable the product to pick up the user’s voice even if they’re across the room and there’s a lot of background noise. Bose will add AirPlay 2 support as well early next year.

The Bose Home Speaker 500 also happens to have a small display on the front where the album art of whatever’s currently playing will be displayed. It’s not a touchscreen display and won’t show any other content.

There are two custom drivers inside the speaker that are pointed in opposite directions so that the sound that reflects off the walls nearby. There are a few buttons at the top for controlling playback. The speaker costs $400 and will be available for purchase in October.
