The Razer Phone 2 Has Been Officially Announced

The concept of gaming phones is a strange one, because for the most part most of these gaming phones tend to sport the same high-end features similar to other high-end flagship phones. However if there is one major advantage the newly announced Razer Phone 2 has over its competition, would be its display where you could justify its tagline as a gaming phone.

Just like its predecessor, the Razer Phone 2 will feature a display with a 120Hz refresh rate. This makes it the only phone to sport such a display (the ASUS ROG Phone has a 90Hz refresh rate). However just like its predecessor, the Razer Phone 2 seems to be keeping to the same display size and resolution. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but when we’re seeing handset makers like Samsung and Apple push phones beyond the 6-inch limit, it’s hard not to draw comparisons.

Other hardware features of the Razer Phone 2 include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 64GB of UFS storage, and also a microSD card slot that will support memory expansion. Razer has also improved on battery life of the phone, where they claim it will run for 10 hours even at a 120Hz refresh rate, which they claim is better than its predecessor which ran for 10 hours on a lower 90Hz refresh rate.

Razer is also boasting that the handset has been optimized to run for various popular mobile titles. It will also feature a Chroma logo on the back of the phone that can be used to alert users to notifications. There is also support for wireless charging, and will also include a new 12MP wide-angle camera + 12MP telephoto lens combo. Given that the camera was an area that many felt the Razer Phone was lacking, hopefully these changes will make a difference.

Pre-orders for the Razer Phone 2 will start on the 11th of October where users can purchase it in a Mirror Black or Satin Black finish for $799.
