Nintendo Switch Becomes America’s Fastest Selling Console

It goes without saying that the Nintendo Switch has been an incredible success for the company. It needed to hit it out of the park after the Wii U and it delivered the goods with the Switch. The latest numbers from NPD Group show that the Nintendo Switch has actually become America’s fastest selling console.

Nintendo has sold over 8.7 million Switch units since the console was released in March 2017 through November 2018. It has sold faster than any of the current generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony in the same period of time following their release.

This is not to be confused with the overall sales of either the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. Both consoles have sold more units in total compared to the Nintendo Switch. What this metric shows is that the Switch sold 8.7 million units in just over one and a half years after its launch, it achieved that figure before the other consoles did after they were first launched in 2013.

Nintendo is said to be the top-selling software publisher for 2018 as well. It pointed out that more than three million copies of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate were sold in the United States in just the first 11 days after the title’s release. Smash Bros. also happens to be the fastest-selling game ever released by Nintendo in Europe.

The company added that Nintendo eShop sales have grown 105 percent over 2017 and that the company’s hardware unit and dollar sales for 2018 are at their highest annual totals since 2011.
